Subject: Welcome to the PIREDEU Voter Survey Open Forum!

Location: European University Institute

We are very happy to welcome you to this forum. The Voter Survey Team is coordinated out of the University of Amsterdam, by Wouter van der Brug and Marcel van Egmond. We work in close coordination with the Contextual Data team based in Poland.

The goal of the Voter Survey Team is to create and administer an EU-wide, nationally representative and internationally comparative survey among eligible voters and non-voters for the European Parliament elections 2009. As such, the survey will function as the European Election Study 2009 (EES09) and continue on the data collection efforts of previous EES surveys.

Proposals for questionnaire contents, as well as suggestions for questionnaire improvement are welcomed. Please see the Online Forum guidelines for information on registration and posting.

Funding is secured to guarantee an election survey in each of the 27 countries of the EU. Because of limitations in funding, the set of questions to be included in the EES 2009 will be restricted. A guide for the selection of the proposed core set of questions is the wish to continue upon data collection efforts from previous EES studies, securing historical comparability, and the inclusion of innovative survey sections.

Proposals for questionnaire content or improvement are welcome on the Open Forum from 15 April until 14 June 2008. Following that period, the research team will formulate a draft questionnaire. From July 2008 until January 2009, the forum will function as a space for feedback and discussion on the proposed questionnaire.
