Subject: Welcome to the PIREDEU Contextual Data Open Forum

Location: European University Institute

Welcome to the Forum. The Contextual Data Team is coordinated by scholars from the Warsaw School of Social Psychology, Radoslaw Markowski being the Team Leader. Our immediate collaborators are: University of Mannheim and University of Amsterdam. The Contextual Data Team works in close cooperation with the Voter Survey Team, coordinated by Amsterdam.

The main goal of the Contextual Data Team is to collect contextual data necessary for cross- national comparative research on electoral behavior. The contextual data has to be gathered with respect to specific goals envisaged by teams working on Voters, Manifestoes, Media and Candidates.

The first step is to make an inventory of variables considered absolutely necessary for an Infrastructure for research on Electoral Democracy.

We take this opportunity to invite scholars interested in the topic to submit proposals of both particular variables/data to be included into our inventory as well as their sources which could be easily accessible. For details check the Online Forum guidelines for information on registration and posting.

Funding at our disposal is (as always) limited, consequently in submitting your proposals, please remain realistic, although at this particular stage - the initial step of making the inventory - all innovative proposals will be given proper consideration. In submitting your proposals, please make sure it is accompanied by a thorough theoretical justification. This will certainly help its final inclusion into the data set.

Proposals are expected until 1 June 2008, after which the Team will offer the final inventory of variables to be accepted by the Data and Steering Committees.

The way to contact us is either via Open Forum or directly by contacting MikoĊ‚aj Czesnik or Radek Markowski.
